The 2019 Breakthrough Prize in Mathematics has been awarded to Vincent Lafforgue – CNRS (National Center for Scientific Research, France) and Institut Fourier, Université Grenoble Alpes, for ‘ground breaking contributions to several areas of mathematics, in particular to the Langlands program in the function field case’.
The International Mathematical Union (IMU) is leading the project to have UNESCO proclaim March 14 as the International Day of Mathematics (IDM). If approved by UNESCO the first celebration of the IDM is expected to be on March 14, 2020. More information is available
As part of the , taking place 17 to 21 October 2018, a screening of Faces of Women in Mathematics is being held at UCL's Main Quad.
Inspired by the incredible women mathematicians around the globe, the short film was produced by Dr Eugenie Hunsicker, Chair of the аĿª½±Women in Mathematics Committee, and her filmmaker sister, Irene Linke.
